Amanda Palmer and Renegades of Dub at the Brisbane hotel – 14/1/11

20 01 2011

Last friday I had a long nights shooting. after taking photos at MONA FOMA (and being told to stop as I didn’t have a press pass) I went up to the Brisbane Hotel for Renegades of Dub. I managed to get photos of DJ Grotesque and ACUMEN before  the amazing Amanda Palmer came onstage to play with both support acts The Jane Austen Argument and Mikeangelo and the Black Sea Gentlemen. Unfortunately I couldn’t stay all night as I had an early start for a camping trip the next day. Enjoy!

the great move

26 07 2010

I’ve been fairly busy lately, mainly because working 2 jobs takes away pretty much any precious time you have and also because I’ve just moved out of home!
its amazing the stuff you’ll find after living in the same place all your life. So many memories were revisited and some are now hanging on the walls of my new place. I’ll try and find some old photos to scan and post up on this blog soon.
Moving out of home has also made me excited for the future, living with one of the most creative people I know and right in the heart of the city I love is going to be very motivating and inspirational so I’ll be out shooting as much as I can!
I’ll give you a look at the house once everythings set up, so far its just a kitchen and half empty boxes all over the floors but we plan to turn this humble little cottage right around into the awesome bachelor pad it deserves to be!
In the meantime, here’s some recent photos from things I’ve been doing  in the past month or so…

Do I get a medal for being the 1 millionth person to photograph constitution dock?

first Holga shots

11 07 2010

I picked up my first roll from the Holga the other day. shot on film that expired before I was born, I was pretty surprised to see how well the film held up. A few shots came up under exposed, I’m not sure if that was because of the cameras unknown exposure, the film being old or just me. most are unedited or have a slight adjustment in levels.

Acumen

8 07 2010

I shot the Acumen comeback show at Mobius (best club ever) a few weeks ago. I’ve been waiting to edit these until I get my new computer.. which I now have :D (Yes I converted to the “dark side” but after converting I’m fairly convinced I was on the dark side to start with.)
Anyway, I shot 100′s of photos on the night and plan to slowly release them in a range of media.. some you’ll see soon, some you might not see for a while.. or ever!
heres a few from the night so far, I mostly shot on my D700 with Moey’s fisheye (thanks buddy) but I also used my friends D90 so I could switch lenses’ without having to do so in the middle of a dance floor full of drunk people.
Shooting this gig was an interesting experience. normally I’d be the one at the front dancing and heckling the dj and this time I was getting heckled.. and bumped into by drunks, not to mention trying to avoid bumping/photographing the wrong, agressive person, looking out for peoples drinks so I dont get any vodka raspberry or cascade lager on my cameras and negotiating the crowd and lighting to get the shots I wanted. I ended up filling up 2x 4 and 1x 8 gigabyte cf cards and all of my friends sd card on his D90.. so many shots were taken although admitably not many will be of any use.
enjoy…

update…

26 06 2010

I havent posted anything on here lately for a few reasons including being fairly busy with work and working on various projects for Alphabetrix. Along with this, My laptop was made made in hell and has an OS made by satan himself so retouching photos has just become so fustraiting that I’ve given up on editing anything more than 1 photo at a time. I’m getting a new computer in the coming week and should hopefully get some film developed so I’ll have more content up on here soon!

In the mean time, heres something I shot while waiting for the bus tonight(being metro, it was late).

Martie.
